Preamp Pedal recreates the raw, modded-amp aggression of the 1980s

Availability: In stock

The Peavey VTM Preamp Pedal is one of the most aggressive and customizable pedals in Peavey’s Legacy series. It recreates the classic VTM 60/120 amps (late ’80s)—known for hot-rodded, modded Marshall-style tones with a lot of flexibility built in.

Core sound
Thick, high-gain distortion with a strong “British” character (EL34-style voicing)
Tighter and more focused than the Decade, but rawer and more aggressive than the Rock Master
Designed to capture that “modded amp” sound from the 1980s—think boosted, customized tube amps
Can cover:
Crunchy hard rock
Classic metal
Saturated lead tones
Controls and features
Pre Gain / Post Gain – control distortion level and output
3-band EQ (Low, Mid, High) – traditional but effective tone shaping
8-position DIP switch system – the key feature:
Each switch changes gain structure, compression, or EQ response
Mimics real amp “mods” from the 1980s
What makes it different
The DIP switches let you radically reshape the pedal, not just tweak it
You can go from:
Tight and punchy
To loose, saturated, almost fuzzy
Much more configurable than the Bandit or Rock Master pedals
Feel and design
Uses TransTube analog circuitry to simulate tube amp response
Internally runs at higher voltage for:
Better headroom
More dynamic response
Works like a real preamp, not just a distortion pedal
Character
Aggressive, modded, and very “80s”
More organic and amp-like than typical distortion pedals
Can be dialed to be:
Tight and controlled
Or wild and saturated depending on switches
Use cases
Hard rock and classic metal
Players who like tweaking and shaping their tone
Running into:
FX return
Power amp
Interface (with cab sim)
Pros
Extremely flexible due to DIP switches
Authentic vintage high-gain character
Amp-like response and feel
Cons
DIP switches are not footswitchable (you set them manually)
No cabinet simulation
Can be overkill if you just want simple plug-and-play tones
